Arts & Crafts 101

My mom and I seem to think we are the queens of Arts & Crafts. Well, maybe not the queens, but we have this creative gene that's just screaming to get out! We come up with these crazy ideas, and I will be the first to say that most of them don't turn out like the 'cool' thing we imagined in our head....but it was worth a shot, right?! And then there are those times, like this and even this, where we actually got something cool! When Husband is traveling, you will most likely find me at my parents house working on a 'project'. That's the only time I will make time to work on stuff like this (and I have help from my parents with the kids, so I can actually pay attention to the project!).

While at my parents earlier this week, I discovered these three canvases that were calling my name. I had NO idea what I was going to do with them, but I wanted to do something....dang arts & crafts genes! I should mention that my mom bought them and 'experimented' on them and let's just say that it was one of those unsuccessful moments. I started by covering up her masterpiece (sorry Mom!) with brown paint....a fresh canvas!

Then it hit me! Brilliant idea. One of my favorite tanks has this decorative cross on it, so out came that top....inspiration, baby (and YES, I hung it from the chandelier)!

Finished cross....

This was the start of the second one I worked on. I decided to go with a fleur de lis....

Finished....

Now, I can't even tell you how the third painting transpired! One thing lead to another and....

Husband appreciates sentimental things, so he will like this part! I started tearing up paper and glued the pieces to the canvas. Then I printed off the three part blog post of how Husband and I met and tore pieces of that, as well and tried to make it look a little aged. So, now the background is a collage (which also has our story mixed in)! Then I painted 'Faith' on it, but I'm not quite done...I need to make the word stand out a little more.

All three....

If nothing else, it was fun to do. I was trying to tell Husband over the phone what they looked like and I finally emailed him a picture (this was before I did the collage one) and his favorite was the cross. I'll let you know if they end up in our house somewhere!

Those dang creative genes....

Seriously, Hollie. You are talented! I love them all! I do think the cross is my fave--but wow! I love the story, etc about the Faith one. I definitely think they need to be hung in the house!
