Getting to know Sterling

A few things I am learning about Ms. Sterling!

* She is very calm and sweet, but I have learned that she likes to play too.
* I have gotten her to put her paws on my shoulders to dance with me.
* She will do this quiet growling thing and I haven't figured out if she is just playing or if she is giving the kids a little warning to back off - therefore I am still a little nervous.
* Kylie has gotten very brave around her...I have to watch Ky & Sterling together because she does that growling thing the most with Ky.
* Kylie is acting like a dog now. She asks if she can have a treat too when she goes potty (since Sterling gets a treat for going outside) and yesterday I caught Ky on her back with both arms and legs in the air and she was licking her foot (I looked over and Sterling was licking her paw) - NICE.
* Sterling likes to pass gas - A LOT.
* When she does pass gas it smells like a skunk and she is ALWAYS sitting next to me.
* Evidently she likes to chase squirrels (I found this out this morning). She jumped so high that her front paws went over the fence as she looked for Mr. Squirrel!
* She loves to be in bed with us. We tried many times moving her to her bed and that lasted about 6 minutes. At least I got some sleep last night. But the past two nights I have woken (waken ?) up to a FULL bed!
* I am very nervous to leave her by herself (I will be doing this for the first time today)...I have no idea what will happen. She didn't know what was happening yesterday when everyone but me & Ky left...she kept walking in all the rooms looking for everyone.
* We can't seem to get her off the couch either. I want to put my foot down and be stern with her, but at the same time I know she must be nervous about her new home, so I'm trying to make her feel comfortable too...I'm creating a monster.
* I never thought I would give so much attention AND love to a dog. I will go ahead and admit that I was that person who thought it was silly to give an animal so much attention...I KNOW, I KNOW! It just that I've had another dog and she was the best dog on the planet, so I assumed we wouldn't have another dog like her....now I'm realizing that they are all different and awesome in their own little ways (again, can't believe I am typing that!).

Sterling said to tell you 'Hi!' (she is still trying to get used to her Mama taking pictures ALL. THE. TIME....but she will warm up and post something soon)! OK seriously, pray that she does well when I leave later on....I've very nervous! How do you think she will do?

Well, if she does anything like what I would like to be doing today, she'll be curled up in a warm bed all day!

Dogs are so awesome. I have never NOT had a dog! They become your unconditional best friend and love you no matter what! I can't wait to meet Sterling as I am the biggest dog lover ever!
Enjoy!

(p.s. having a dog can be a great lesson for the kiddos as far as chores - Bryce feeds our dogs when he is over. He also opens the door to let them in and out.)

I'd watch the low growling - our dog does that and it's a warning sign - him trying to say back off.

You might try leaving her in a secluded area! I can't imagine what would happen if we let either of our dogs out in the house by themselves.

Be careful about the low growling, as it is, indeed, a warning sign. Oftentimes dogs are more wary of younger children because of their awkward/hyperactive movements. Has Sterling been around other children? You should work with the kids on being calm and slow/deliberate in their movements around Sterling until she comes to know/trust them.

Weimers are great dogs...highly energetic and needs LOTS of exercise...and yours is beautiful!

Have fun with her and ENJOY! :-)

Our dog Ava does the growling this when she hears voices outside but the truth is with her, her bark is much bigger than her bite, because once we let her out, she just runs to play with whomever is out there. But still watch, it could just be a boundry thing. She is so cute, good luck!

There is NO hope for our critters!!! They rule the roost and are allowed wherever they please! And isn't it funny how we will sit/sleep in uncomfortable positions so THEY can get a night of uninterrupted sleep?!?!? Sheesh!

Hi Hollie! Sterling is so cute and definitley looks like she is a part of the family already.

It was so cool to meet you and your sweet family last night. I love your blog and hearing about all the normal antics of a mom trying to juggle daily life. You definitely put on smile on my face when I visit your blog. Keep it coming.

Welcome to life with a doggie. Mine's almost human. They are really loving creatures. Your family will love having Sterling around.
As to leaving them alone at home, I started in little alone areas for my cockapoo, Newman..then his area got bigger and bigger and now I can leave him alone.
