* I got reprimanded at the grocery store for telling this lady behind me in line 'yes ma'am'. What?! She told me it made her feel old. Well old lady, you just continue feeling old and I will continue to be polite and say yes ma'am and no ma'am!
* People in Texas really do say 'Bless your heart' a lot...or at least, I noticed that I do! I was sitting at the pharmacy the other day and I overheard a conversation taking place about this lady who just got back from TX. She was telling another lady that people in Texas think they can get away with saying anything IF they add 'bless your heart' at the end. Pretty funny!
* I never thought twice about having a Texan accent...until I moved to Iowa and people look at me with a very confused look as I speak.
* Evidently if you move from Texas to Iowa you need to take a Winter Safety Course - AKA items you need to purchase before winter arrives.
* I used to wear flip flops year round...I'm thinking that is about to end.
* We made it just in time for the Iowa State Fair, but nothing compares to the Texas State Fair and some amazing arts & craps shopping!!
* Driving down the highway in Texas, you see buildings. Driving down the highway in Iowa, you see corn fields....and more corn fields.
* Everything is bigger in Texas...unless you are referring to deer!! (this one is from Kole)
* There is nothing better than Iowa sweet corn!!
* Dallas drivers are crazy! Iowans are more laid back.
* Police officers in Iowa still give tickets to sweet Texan girls...even if the speed limit drops 10 mph within 10 seconds and you've only lived here a month :/
* No TV station compares to WFAA, oh how I miss thee....
* Our family is in Texas...we're in Iowa (this one is from Alexie)
* John Deere tractors really do drive down the road with the regular 'ole cars. And the geese make you wait for them to cross the road first!!
I'm thinking there needs to be a part 2 to this post...so many more to mention!

on the ticket issue - I would go to court the day you are scheduled and let the know the situation - say hey, just moved here, still getting used to things, didn't realize the speed limit was different, etc.
here in KY depending on the prosecutor, they will sometimes dismiss the ticket based on that.
good luck! :)
Can't believe the "yes ma'am." I wish someone would call me that. That's how I grew up calling my mom. It's about respect not age. Cops...I think they are just tired of people coming out with excuses to get away from getting a ticket and what you responded must be something they hear ALL the time. Agree with Melissa. Go to the courthouse and show them some kind of written proof that you just moved there. Good luck!
I just found your blog while visiting another blog and saw this post and had to read.....I'm originally from IA but moved to FL 11 years ago. This post cracked me up! So true. As our kids get older we are praying for doors to open up so that we can move back to IA. It's great place to raise a family for sure!
I know this is a little old. I found your blog while trying to find an old friend. My husband and I just made the exact opposite move that you did. We moved from Iowa, where we were both born and raised down here to Texas in back in June.
I had to crack up during this post because it is so true! I hope you are adjusting well and finding good things in Iowa.
