Who are you?!

I am a floral designer, a knitter, a crafter, a cook and a wine-o! I own my own floral design company servicing the Dallas, Texas area.



How did you get started as a blogger?

Initially I started blogging to promote my business, The Wooly Thistle. It’s such a great way to show what I do and it gives me a chance to express my personality through images and words.



Where does your inspiration come from?

All around me! I always have my eyes open for new looks, color combos, creative ideas. My inspiration isn’t limited to flowers either. I love observing every element of design; how a subject is photographed, how an outfit/look is pulled off, how a space is put together, how nature grows... oh, and Pinterest! I can spend all day on Pinterest!



What makes your blog unique and different?

Flowers are wonderful and beautiful. So many people are intimidated because there are so many different types. I want people to look at my arrangements and know what they are looking at. I try to be as descriptive as possible when displaying my work on my blog.



What is one of your favorite pieces?

On the blog one of my favorites is a bouquet I made using hand picked cotton and wheat. It really turned out lovely. I also really love the fall inspired arrangement featured on my blog. I took tiny little pumpkins, staked them and added them to some cool textures and colors. I was really happy with the results.



Along with floral design I am also an avid knitter! I have been challenging myself with some new techniques and looks so I have a couple of projects I’m pretty proud of. Eventually I'm hoping these will make an appearance on the blog, as well!

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting a blog or business?

Patience! Get advise. Listen! Do some of your own research - look at blogs you like. Like, really look. Understand what you like and find a way to communicate that. I was totally overwhelmed by blogging at first but then I realized that all the answers are right in front of me. I just had to find them.
